HD Clone 4 - no mouse or keyboard

Post by Neal » Fri Dec 31, 2010 6:13 pm

I downloaded the free version of HD Clone to try before purchasing it. I created a bootable CD. When I tried to use it, I was able to get it to boot no problem. The issue is I have no mouse or keyboard, neither will work. I am using HD Clone on a Dell Vostro 200 and both the mouse and keyboard are USB based. Is there something I can try other than installing HD Clone into windows (Vista)? I was wanting to clone the HD by booting off the CD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since both keyboard and mouse don't work, there's no real way of knowing what fails. HDClone uses its own USB drivers to access keyboard, mice, and USB hard disks, but apparently something is not compatible with the controller built in the Dell Vostro.

You can still use the Windows version of HDClone, you don't have to install it. Simply start the 'hdclone.exe' application from the ZIP file. You can also copy the system drive, HDClone will make sure it can access all files.

I discovered on my Dell desktop that HDClone did not recognize any device connected to the USB ports on the front of the tower, but connecting them to USB ports on the back of the tower worked fine...dunno why, something to do with their "Cascading" the USB ports to the front..

Worth a try..

Maybe turning on or off the USB-Legacy-Support in the BIOS may help - if it exists. The Legacy-Support gives your Acccess to USB-Keyboards and Mice in Operationsystems without USB-Support.
