HDClone 3.9 is here

Post by wm4bama » Thu May 13, 2010 3:52 pm

Hi Alex,

I got the Miray newsletter a few days ago announcing the 3.9 version availability, but have not received my download authorization as yet...

Is there a delay in emailing these authorizations?

Thanks,

Automatic authorization goes to everyone who has bought an old HDClone up to three months prior to the release of the new version.

If you have purchased your version of HDClone earlier (which I recall you did), you're not automatically eligible for free updates to the new version.

Wow! That's a shocker! I never read anything about a "3 month limitation on updates". Is this a new policy from Miray? I've had paid version of HDCLONE much longer than a year and some updates were more than 3 months apart, yet I still got them.

Can you post, or point to the document, that spells out this policy?

Thanks..

It has to do with the version: if you purchase version 3.4, you are entitled for all versions with 3.4 in front, e.g. 3.4.0, 3.4.1, 3.4.2, 3.4.3, etc.
The next major version, which would be 3.5, is not included in this package: if one buys 3.5, he again can download all subversions of 3.5, being 3.5.0, 3.5.1, 3.5.2, etc.

And, here the three months window comes into play, if you buy the 3.4 (to stay in the previous example) within three months before the release of the 3.5, you'll be upgraded automatically to 3.5

That's how it is handled internally, although you're right, the page that should mention that (http://www.miray.de/order/sat.hdclone.update.html) doesn't elaborate on it...

Well Alex, now that you explained the "internal policy" of Miray, please let me say that it's a very poor policy....I have paid versions of many software packages and the updates are good for life...free...

I think if Miray sticks with this policy that recommendations from current customers will be negative, in fact, most will tell other potential customers to avoid Miray products...

Pay once for the product, not for upgrades...besides, most upgrades fix bugs and unsupported hardware that should have been working to begin with...although new versions also introduce new features and options, this should not force an existing customer to pay extra to get the new releases...

Sign me as a disgruntled customer...
