Beginners Help

Post by kyle » Wed Nov 05, 2008 4:15 pm

Apparently i am doing something wrong. We have all dells and currently a 755 is the model of choice with downgrade to xp. When we get it imaged it comes and asks for the xp key. The problem is the key we have is for vista and the xp cd is what contains the key for these dells. Is there a way we can run sysprep so it doesn't ask for this? or is there a way to pull this off the cd? Thanks

running sysprep should do the trick. sysprep should be found on the internet or on some installation CDs of XP, but I'm quite sure at some time the XP key has to be entered if a given installation is to be deployed on more machines.

If you want to backup one single machine, you shouldn't be asked for the key again (assuming the configuration hasn't been changed). If the problem persists in any form, please contact our support at https://www.miray.de/support/index.php

I got that done but now after imaging this to a partition on an external usb drive and then reimaging from partition to drive our dells will not boot at all. Also, our xp and vista cds will not recognize the hard drives now. Is there a manual to what each setting does or could do. I am wondering if automatically letting hdclone adjust drive settings is causing this hd not to show.

auto adjust alters the drive geometry. This might be a problem in certain situations. If you're doing backup and restore, no auto adjustment should be done at all.
