HDCloned then HD isn't recognized

Post by tomaprik » Sun May 28, 2006 12:46 am

This is what happened...

I used hdclone on partitioned 30 gig hd and then tried to copy it onto an unpartitioned 80 gig hd. The clone completed successfully, but after I restarted, I couldn't get the 80 gig hd to be recognized. I tried switiching ide channels and switching jumpers to match, nothing is working, any ideas?

Is the drive not recognized by the BIOS or does it not boot from it?

In the first case it might help setting the BIOS Hard Disc Type to "Auto", which should trigger a redetection. If this does not work, please send a message to support@miray.de, where our support team will do its best to help solve the problem.

That depends upon what you mean with won't boot.
Most likely it has to do with the CHS layout not matching anymore (which is still observed by the Windows Bootloader). If you use the new HDClone 3.5, you can make a clone and patch the bootcode later to deactivate CHS access and force LBA access (which should work better). You don't have to make an entire clone, you can copy only a few sectors, abort and then a dialog will pop up allowing you to patch the boot loader (labelled 'modify bootcode' or something similiar).

If it doesn't work then, please write to our support, though there won't be any response until Monday.

Thanks Alex

Sorry for the lack of details, but here they are. I'm using HDClone Pro 3.5 that I've purchase and downloaded directly for the Site..

I'm cloning a HD from a Dell Latitude D610 60gb drive to an USB 2.0 Drive 120gb which after words will be installed in the Dell to replace the 60gb.

After cloning the drive, I had only a 60gb partition in my 120gb. Then W2K won't recognize the new HD as a Bootable Drive.

In Disk Management, I see the new Drive and the Partition is Active.

So How can I make a viable copy from my 60gb to the 120gb and keep all of the 120gb space, and second, How can I make it Bootable with my W2K?

Also, why isn't there any User Manual that come with the Software?

Thanbks for the advice.

I copy 160GB sata system HDD to 320GB sata disk. 320GB disk boot and work, BUT have only 160GB. :(

The additional 160GB can either be used as another partition (use Computer Management in the Control Panel to do this) or use other Third-party software to increase the size of your 160GB partition. Nothing is lost at this point, it simply is not (yet) an accessible file system (something HDClone can't yet do at the moment).

I just used the pro version of the software to make a partition copy of my HP boot drive onto an external WD Hard drive. The clone completed successfully. I then powered down my HP desktop and re-started it. Now I can not boot at all form the HP. I can not begin to express how aggravating this is nor how much money it's costing me to be down.

Has anyone else experienced this and has anyone found a resolution short of re-formating and reloading the OS?
