How to copy HDclone to a CD-ROM?

Post by No_Expert » Wed Dec 12, 2007 12:44 am

When downloading HDclone, I copied it to a simple floppy-disc. There it worked great and I can say, that it rescued me from deep trouble sometimes ...
But now I own a laptop without a floppy-drive and therefore tried to copy the contents of my HDclone-floppy to a CD-ROM. Something I must have done wrong, because the computer tries to start from this CD-ROM, but does not recognize the HDclone-software on it. What do I have to to to create a working copy of this software on CD-ROM?
Thanks in advance!

The simpliest way is to use the installer, which should have shipped with the program package: simply choose your CD-writer as target and everything will be done for you.

Alternatively (or if you don't use Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista, where the CD burning capability of the Installer is enabled), you can write the hdclone.iso file, which is also in the package directly to disc. To do this, use your favourite CD-writing software and choose something like "write ISO file" or "write image file", select said hdclone.iso file and start the process.

Lastly, if there's no such option, use the floppy image (called hdclone.img, also in the program package) and create a bootable CD in your CD-writing software, specifying this floppy image as boot image (you can probably even insert your floppy disk into the floppy drive and specify this drive as the source).

What do you mean use the installer?

The installer only installs the program.

What steps makes a bootable CD Rom with HDClone so that I can restore an image of my C: drive?

In the package of HDClone there are two programs: setup.exe, which installs HDClone and some other files in Windows, and hdclone.exe, which you can use to make a bootable CD. You can do the same after running setup and then running Start > HDClone > Create Boot Medium

You can read more about it in chapter 4.2.2 of the manual (also included in the package).
