It is a change in the key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, where the value "EnableLinkedConnections" is set to 1. This enables the administrator user, that owns the HDClone process to access the network shared active for the current user.
If the current user is 'john', with only normal user privileges and one network drive mapped to X:, when executing HDClone he has to acknowledge the program requesting administrative rights. After this request, HDClone doesn't run anymore as user 'john', but as user administrator. When the key above is not set to '1', the user 'administrator' won't be able to see the drive X:
