Deploying image across network

Post by Michael » Mon Mar 29, 2010 5:05 am

Hello, I would like to know what I have to do in order to copy an image file from a remote computer using HD clone 3.8 please. What I am trying to do is copying that image from my main computer in the house to my laptop. They're on the same network. I have created a bootable floppy with network support and mapped the drive which the image is on the main computer but the thing is after I do and insert the the HD clone bootable floppy back in I can't do anything from the command prompt anymore, because the only file on that disk is called README.txt
any thoughts???

The self-booting version of HDClone does not have network support, only the Windows version can access network shares. I'd suggest you try to create a bootable Windows-CD (Bart PE) with HDClone for Windows on it, where you can access the remote image and deploy it.

Download PEBuilder from http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ and install the HDClone PE-Plugin from http://www.miray.de/public/support/HDClone-BartPE-Plugin.en.zip into the 'plugin'-Directory of PEBuilder. A new directory called 'HDClone' should be found there. Copy the HDClone.exe file into the 'pebuilder3110apluginHDClonefiles' Directory and start PEBuilder in the 'pebuilder3110a' directory.

Now create a bootable CD as detailed in http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/#start, boot the CD and start HDClone from Start > Programs > HDClone

For newer versions of Windows you'll have to use the appropriate Live-CD utilities provided with these operating systems (search for Winbuilder or something with a similar name).

Regarding your observation with the floppy disk:
The floppy disk is self-booting and contains two hidden files (apart from the README.TXT): sysload.sys, which boots the disk, and kernel.map, which is the complete compressed application plus operating system. It cannot be started from within another operating system, but must be started from boot up by the BIOS.
