HDClone Free Stuck on "scanning for connected drives"

Post by zppratt » Thu Mar 04, 2010 6:46 pm

HDClone Free seems to not be able to connect to the external drive I'm using (3.5" External Subsystem). If I turn off the drive or disconnect it the scan completes showing only the internal HDD, otherwise the "HDClone is scanning for connected.." screen remains indefinitely..

This seems to be a new problem with the 3.8.4 version, and we are already investigating this issue.

We'll keep you informed when we have a solution for this problem.

Could you please state your main board model (for the USB controller) and the model of the external hard disk that is not working?

alex--

Thank you! The external HDD appears to be unbranded.

What's the fastest way to discover the USB info?

Is there a link to an older version?

Yes, if you download http://www.miray.de/public/download/hdclone.3.7.5.fe.en.zip, you can get the 3.7.5 version with a very different USB driver.

Regarding the USB info: if your system runs Windows, simply check the hardware manager in the control panel / System / Hardware, amongst the last items are the USB controllers, in my system e.g.

Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2830
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2831
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2832
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2833
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2834
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2835
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 2836
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 283A

Such an info would be enough.

Thanks for the tip I'm currently cloning..

The source computer is unbootable...outside of a Windows Recovery console. I'm in the process of recovering the data using HDC. I will see what I can get you.

Is there a tool or command in the dos prompt to view the USB controller type?

not that I'm aware of... under linux, one could use lspci or lsusb for such jobs, but no such programs are known to me for the DOS box.

Once I get the source system up and running I'll see what I can do..
