HD Clone 3.8.4 I get 0% copy, 100% errors

Post by Robert » Wed Feb 17, 2010 6:35 pm

I have HD Clone Standard 3.8.4 and it will not copy from a Samsung SV4002H (38205MB) to a WDC WD1600SD (152628 MB) drive. Per the Troubleshooting guide I have turned off Cached Memory, Read/Write Cache, Fast Copy and Shared Memory. I get 0% copy, and 100% read errors. no matter what I do. The Samsung is an IDE drive and the WD is a SATA drive. HD Clone sees both drive ok, The Samsung works just fine (came from a booting system-we are upgrading hardware) and the WD is new and works fine. Any help?

If you run the speed test on both drives separately, what does it show for each drive?

Thanks for the reply: I get an OK speed test on the WD, I get a "There were errors accessing the media" message.

Then I have to check back: did the Samsung disk work in this computer without problems before? If you plugged the Samsung into a new computer to do the copying, you might have to check for Master/Slave issues and also if there are some settings in the BIOS than can be tweaked.

If the disc is jumpered as Slave, try attaching it as Master (which might require removing another connected Master Disk). Sometimes, the controller doesn't like accessing a drive which is connected as Slave without a Master on the same controller.

I've tried everything, swapping from Slave to Master for both drives. The Samsung drive works just fine and boots up in the old computer. I even installed it in the new computer and copied files from it to to the new hard drive. It just will not copy with HD Clone, even though HD Clone says that it is a recognized drive.

I reckon the DMA access for this drive does not work as expected. You can provide us with a log file (start HDClone, go to the 2nd screen (when the drives are recognized), press Ctrl+Alt+F8 and enter 'savelog.en'. You need to attach a USB thumb drive before doing this, then select this thumb drive and hit Enter. A log file will be written to the thumb drive. You can mail this file to us or open a new support case where you can upload the file. We'll be able to figure out what's the matter with the WD disk.
