Hi. I may not have read the instructions correctly? I just downloaded the free version and ran the program. I have copied my external usb drive to the new drive on my new pc. It took 2 hours but when I rebooted I cannot see where the copied files are? Also, when I try to explore my old drive it says it is not formatted. Have I lost all my data or can I recover? Thanks.

Hi. I ran the program direct from the zip file and not from bootable disc. The source was my external device and the target was the hard drive on my new pc. If I got it the wrong way round can it be undone? Thankyou.

If you did something like Disc->Disc, Partition->Disc, Partition->Partition, Image->Partition or Image->Disc, the result cannot be undone. If you did Disc->Image or Partition->Image, it writes to an existing file system on the target drive, which will not be erased.

Since I assume you wanted to write the contents of the external device to your new PC. What files were on the external device? Was it a complete System image (perhaps created with another session of HDClone)? If it were only backup files (documents, etc.) then there's the operating system missing. If it was a complete system image, it must be that of an entire disc, otherwise the boot area is missing. In this case, create a bootable hard disk (using the control panel > administration > disc management: initialize), make the partitions how you want them and then restore the partition image to the new partition, which now should boot...
