PCISniffer 1.5 & HP 8710w

Post by hb38 » Thu Jul 31, 2008 4:16 pm

Hi every body,

I'm sad, the wonderfull PCISniffer doesn't want to run on my laptop.
SPhere start well, and when it reach 100% I have a black screen, and every thing is locked (ESC doesn't perform any action, CTRL_ALT_SUP doesn't reboot).
I've tried with CDROM (using the ISO file) and a USB floppy disk (using IMG file)

as it is a wide screen, I've tried using an external screen (17" TFT 1280x1024). SAME

is there any hidden key to use at startup to bypass some test ?

thanks for any help.

Hm, no, with Sphere SP there are no hidden keys for startup. If the system locks up as described, there's probably a problem with a) the PCI, which cannot be accessed correctly, or even with the graphics card.

We'll have a look into this.

In the mean time, you can download HDClone Free Edition, start the program and press Ctrl+Alt+F8, and then enter 'lspci' (without the quotes). This should give you a list of all the devices in the system.

To see more info on a specific drive, use lspci -c xxxxxx -e (with xxxx being the class code of the device in question, which is displayed in the list as CC:xxxxxx

It helps to know that the Sphere MP (which HDClone is based on) works with your computer; it probably is something with the PCI service running; the PCISniffer version is quite different from the version used in HDClone, so there might be some fixes required there, but apart from the info about your computer (HP 8710w) there ATM no further info required.

The moment a new PCISniffer version is available, you'll be notified, and we'd be glad for a feedback if things have improved by then.

OK thanks for all.
I'm not sure I will be able to test again with this laptop
it is prepared for a subsidiary company which is 500kms far away.

as it is an expensive "Workstation laptop" I'm not sure to have to prepare another one in the futur.
