Image wont restore

Post by Johann » Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:34 am

Alex,

I used HDClone 3.9 to create image my Aspire laptop - 250gb.

I think that i selected Partition to Image.
I named the image Johann_image and backed it up to an external Samsung USB drive.

I can see the Johann_image in the hd clone images folder.
It shows a hdpro icon and tells me its a container type file.
When i click to open it, it shows lots of other files.

When i choose Image to partition - to restore, the system cant find the file?
When i use my old version 3.8 pro, it finds the image !!
When i then choose Image to Partition or Image to Drive,, it shows me the available file image.. Johann_image 25-07-2010 - 233gb
On the info screen below that it shows:
Creation date and size 233gb (image) 70gb (medium)

I then choose my target drive, Hitachi #1 238,476mb - ntfs

Options screen pops up and then i choose NEXT, then choose START

I am then asked "do you want hdclone to resize automatically" i have tried yes and no... here

i then press start copying...

and then i am left with the copying screen , that tells me "analysing file system" and then the screen just shows the elapsed time. There is no data rate, buffer size or current sector, or read errors, write errors?

It just sticks on this page with a 0% progress...

Please help as this is irreplaceable data...my home videos since 1991.

many thanks

Johann

We are already looking into this issue, it appears HDClone encounters some NTFS data it doesn't expect; we'll let you know when we have an update for it.

Does HDClone tell how many sectors it has written up to this point? You could also send the .img-File from the Image-Directory to us to see if there is any discrepancy.

I believe I may have a similar issue.
I have two older images done with something around 3.8 (can't remember the last digit and I have lost the CD somewhere this winter) with a boot CD. I believe both images is partition images (but uncertain I was in a hurry when I did those) but I know that one of them has been restored at least once (as I found a HD containing this). But now I can't restore any of them with the latter versions.
Honestly I have only tried to do it to one specific HD and I can get it all restored, but afterwards windows can't find anything on this drive. Actually if I repair the drive (chkdsk) I get what was on the drive several years ago in perfect condition, and not what I just have overwritten. The drive is same size as the copied.
Well my goal is to restore the two images or rather just the one as I have found the other on at HD, but I am not sure which one it is.

Kind of forgot: I can't load the images as virtual drives as well.

The loading as virtual drives will be possible with a future version of MVD, there needs to be some conversion done, otherwise MVD would be very very slow with these images.

As for the images not working: I'll pass this up to the people involved, but currently we're using for our own applications images made with 3.7 now three years back (for a quick setup of test environments etc.), always with the newest HDClone, and never encountered problems with it...

Okay, looking forward to any tool that actually will be able to load those images (although I could use it at the moment).
I have actually found a back-up I had of the HDclone. It is v 3.8 straight, and running this does make some difference (eg. I can restoreas a drive without writing errors, but still I believe the imagesto be partions). Still no succes but I'll have to check with another HD. I'll be back on this in a couple of days (too busy at the moment).

I too have been encountering fragility with images - two I made with HC4.02 I think won't mount properly with HC4.04c, they get a drive letter but no size information and can't be read. I haven't tried a restore yet.

Restoring is a totally different process, so in theory restoring should provide you with a workable clone.

As to why the MVD doesn't mount properly with the new version: can you be a bit more specific how the image was made? Was it a partition or a disk image? Was it a smart Image or a Image made with the Free Edition, or a RAW image made with the Professional Edition. Depending on these settings, different types of images are created, that might trigger a different behavior of MVD.

Hello, I can honestly say that i'm NOT impressed with this software! Has caused me alot of wasted time & added stress.

I have two HDClone Images from customers that I cannot access data from!

Heres my quick frustrating story story:

1. Purchased HDCLone 3.8 Professional.
2. Proceeded to Backup two Clients Hard Disk Drives using Disk Image.
3. Both Images will not restore correctly to new Slightly Bigger Hard Disks.
4. The images keep coming up as RAW & cannot be accessed, wanting to be reformatted. It also freezes on applying file system changes & have tried it many times without making file system changes on larger drives.
5. Was advised that I MIGHT have problems restoring Data and You SHOULD try the new Version has issues have been fixed.
6. Purchased HDClone 4.0 Professional.
7. Extact same errors exist even with Cloning a new customers Hard Disk Drive with Image, Can not restore image to Bigger or Same size Hard Disk Drive
8. Miray Virtual Disk cannot access the older 3.8 Image & STILL CAN NOT RETRIEVE CUSTOMERS DATA !!

These images came from perfectly working Hard Disk Drives

HEEEEELP !

I'm sick on the support team saying, you may have issues if this hasn't been done and please try this and that. This User interface only has a few options & should work?

So my question is? Does this program actually work? Has anyone been successful in restoring images or accessing older images using Miray Virtual Disk?

From, One unhappy customer!
Steve
