HD Clone 4.2.2 - only works in safe mode

Post by RadioTech » Thu Jan 10, 2013 5:33 pm

I was a user of version 4.0.7 and I upgraded to the 4.2.2 Pro version. My problem is that on a band new PC (right out of the box) my version 4.2.2 bootable CD just hangs when it says loading. If I try safe mode it works but it is taking over 36 hours to backup a hard drive (data rate is only 800kb/S).

I tried my old 4.0.7 and it works fine and data rate is about 4Mb/s

Any ideas on why the newer version only runs in safe mode and has a terrible data transfer rate?

The PC I'm working on is an HP Pro 3500, brand new out of the box. My backup device is a Western Digital Passbook 1TB USB

The safe mode uses slower (and safer) methods of accessing the devices, therefore the speed can be lower. Although, it shouldn't be that drastic.

HDClone has changed the operating system version between Version 4.0.7 and 4.2.2 (it's about as big a change as you would have from Windows 95 to Windows 7), and some drivers appear not yet to have reached the same level of compatibility as the old drivers did. This will be fixed in the next service update, when a reworked USB driver stack will be introduced.

Alex,

any idea when the service update will be available? I really need to use the program but right now it is not useable for me.

A new version 4.2.4 is available. But for the driver only working in safe mode:

Please download the singlecore.zip file here, and copy the two files bootenv and core_menu.cfg in the folder /boot of your boot USB drive. If the folder doesn't exist, create it.

This way, HDClone will start in single core mode, which helped with the input issues in some cases.

Currently, there's no easy method for creating a corrected bootable CD with customized options. Your best chances are creating the ISO file, and use some ISO file editing program to add the files in zip file in the BOOT folder of the ISO (that would have to be created).

Meanwhile, version 4.2.4 should offer a new way of accessing mouse and keyboard that could work without the single core patch.
