HDClone 4.3 - Hassle-free AF Disk Cloning

+++ Supporting Advanced Format (AF) +++ Creating dynamic VMDK-/VHD-images +++ Saving copy report +++

MUNICH - March 21st, 2013 - By presenting HDClone 4.3 to the public on 04/03/2013, Miray Software introduces the latest version of the famous cloning and backup tool. HDClone 4.3 can actively clone and backup latestst hard disks using the Advanced Format and also creates dynamic VMDK and VHD images.

The Advanced-Sector-Format allows to produce larger hard disks by using modern sector sizes of 1 kB (1Kn) and 4 kB (4Kn) instead of the 512 byte sectors as they have been in use for over 30 years now. At the same disk capacity, this reduces the number of sectors required and consequently the amount of management data on the disk. This saves disk space which is used as additional storage capacity in modern drives. For maintaining compatibility, some of these hard disks still present themselves as conventional 512 byte media (512e). Therefore, the technology used inside the hard disk may not be visible to the outside.

Emulating 512 byte sectors does not satisfy all cases and sometimes causes problems. To avoid these problems, Miray Software decided to take a different approach with HDClone 4.3. This latest version of HDClone supports cloning hard disks with different sector sizes directly and in any direction, for example from a 512 byte to a 4k-native hard disk and the other way round, too. Users can clone hard disks in any way they want and don't have to care for sector sizes - HDClone 4.3 makes the neccessary modifications to the file system automatically.

HDClone 4.3 also allows to create backup images on storage media with differing sector sizes. Recovering from such images to hard disks using 512 byte, 512e, 1Kn, or 4Kn sector layout is done equally smoothly. This allows to use the fast sector-based copying technology of HDClone for cloning and imaging media with different sector sizes.

Using Miray Virtual Disk, included with HDClone, users can mount file images as virtual drives to access individual files, no matter which sector size the data is stored on.. Besides changes to the graphical user interface (GUI), the developers also added new imaging features to HDClone. Version 4.3 from the Professional Edition on allows to create spacesavingdynamic VMDK and VHD images. These can be mounted as virtual drives in popular virtual machines or directly under Windows with Miray Virtual Disk.

HDClone 4.3 will be publicly released on 04/03/2013 in the Editions "Basic", "Standard", "Professional" and "Enterprise". Miray will also offer a Free Edition at no charge. It will be available at www.miray.de/download/sat.hdclone.html.

Disk-Cloning with Partition-Reorganizing inline

+++ HDClone 4.2 +++ PartitionSelect feature +++ Windows 8 compatible +++ UEFI-BIOS supported +++ SpeedCompress +++

MUNICH - September 10th, 2012 - HDClone, the proven and reliable tool for quick and easy cloning of hard disks and many other types of mass storage media – for professional and personal use as well. HDClone 4.2 allows users to exactly adjust the partitioning scheme for the target in advance. As further highlights, HDClone is now compatible with Windows 8 as well as with the new UEFI-BIOS standard. The also new 'SpeedCompress' feature allows for file images to be compressed with almost no extra time required. HDClone 4.2 will be available as of September 19th, 2012.

In version 4.2 Miray brings the proven and fast cloning of HDClone to a new level. HDClone 4.2 allows to explicitly include or exclude certain partitions of a hard disk for cloning. The size of partitions included for cloning can then be increased or decreased freely and be adjusted exactly to fit into the target medium. The very special feature of HDClone 4.2 is that HDClone is able to process all these selections, settings, changes and adjustments in just one single pass. This means that all the reorganisation of the partitions plus all other adjustments will be perfomed with almost no extra time required and HDClone will still work at its maximum speed. It is even possible to also defragment (meaning 'tidy up' and make faster) NTFS and FAT partitions - still without decreasing copying speed.

Right with Windows 8 now launched officially, HDClone 4.2 is fully compatible with Windows 8. This is even valid in two aspects: HDClone 4.2 can be started and used directly in Windows 8, but also clones and backups Windows 8 installations smoothly and bootably. The HotCopy feature even allows for both at the same time: Starting HDClone in Windows 8 to create a bootable copy of the very Windows system it is just running on.

Another technical change that is to be found in an increasing number of PCs is the UEFI-BIOS, the modernized successor of the well known PC-BIOS. This causes some significant changes to the boot proccess, which the self-booting version of HDClone now is capable to handle. This means HDClone 4.2 can be booted easily to UEFI systems smoothly.

HDClone 4.2 is also a result of Miray's objective to include feedback and ideas from the user community promptly. The most evident example in HDClone 4.2 is the new QuickCompress algorithm that has been added. It allows for having almost no delay in copying compared to uncompressed file images. When creating file images on slow storage media, QuickCompress can even achieve a shorter runtime. SpeedCompress still reaches a compression ratio, which is at about 75% of HDClone's standard compression method.

HDClone 4.2 will be introduced officially on September 19th, 2012 in the known editions 'Basic', 'Standard', 'Professional' and 'Enterprise'. There will also be a 'Free Edition' for generic disk cloning at no charge. It will also be available for download as of September 19th, 2012 at www.miray.de/download/sat.hdclone.html.

Miray presents new HDClone version

+++ faster with SSDs and USB 3 +++ AES encryption +++ supporting GPT +++

MUNICH - March 14th, 2012 - The fastest way to backup or duplicate hard disks: Miray Software presents the new HDClone 4.1. It focuses on maximum performance for SSDs and USB 3 storage media. Also new is support for GPT partitions and securely encrypted file images.

HDClone 4.1 is focused on its core competencies as an universal cloning tool. "We improved and extended functionality, significantly increased speed, especially for USB and SSD storage media. We strongly took our customers' ideas into account", says Ulrich Bauer, HDClone development team member and responsible for the HDClone customer support at Miray.

The features added in version 4.1 represent one year of development. The raised speed for SSDs and USB 3 storage media can cut the time required for a backup or a copy in half. The newly introduced support for GPT (successor of the traditional MBR partition table) and the ability to create virtual machines in VMX format widen the field of application for HDClone. The option to create AES encrypted file images accommodates the increased sensitivity of users regarding data security.

Generally, taking user feedback into account was a core element of the development process of HDClone 4.1. Ulrich Bauer adds: "For the future, we are working on being able to react to customer requests much faster by integrating new program features. And this of course without any negative impact on the easy to operate user interface HDClone is famous for. It will be kept up - and improved if possible."

HDClone 4.1 is available in the usual editions Basic, Standard, Professional and Enterprise. Also as usual, Miray offers the Free Edition at no cost and without any timely limitation. It is ready for downloading at www.miray.de/download/sat.hdclone.html.

New Version: HDClone 4

++ Mount Images as Windows Drives ++ USB 3.0 ++ FAT Downsize & Defrag 'on-the-fly' ++ VMDK Images ++

MUNICH - November 26th, 2010 - On November 29th, 2010, Miray Software will introduce version 4 of the versatile drive cloning tool HDClone. File images can now be mounted as virtual drives in Windows. HDClone 4 also supports the new, fast USB 3.0 interface and has the ability to down-size or reorder FAT file systems 'on the fly'.

HDClone 4 includes the new Software 'Miray Virtual Disk' from the Basic Edition on, allowing users to mount file images as (virtual) Windows drives. An advantage of this technology is that users can access an image like any normal hard disk (just write protected). This enables you to access files within the image from any program (applications, disk tools, data recovery etc.) without extracting the files to a local folder first or having to restore the image to a physical drive. The virtual drives can be made persistent. HDClone 4 Professional Edition (and beyond) also allow to use several virtual drives in parallel and to have them persistently available automatically.

The new version 4 adds full USB 3.0 compatibility to HDClone. Supporting common USB 3.0 controllers, HDClone now can copy and backup fast USB 3.0 drives at full performance. In addition, HDClone 4 supports ExpressCard USB 3.0 adapters, priming it for use on laptop computers, too.

For FAT file systems, HDClone 4 extends its ability to copy to smaller drives (e.g. SSDs) or to perform a defragmentation 'on the fly' without any considerable time required. HDClone 4 Professional Edition also creates VMDK compatible images, allowing them to be directly used as a drive by VMware's virtualization solutions.

Also newly designed is the start screen of HDClone 4. It is organized task-focussed now, allowing for a quick and directed choice of the desired copying mode. Users of preceding versions of HDClone can use their accustomed user interface: the classical view is still available.

HDClone 4 will be available as from November 22nd, 2010 in four commercial editions: Basic (19,90 €), Standard (39,90 €), Professional (99 €) and Enterprise (starting at 299 €). For private users, we also offer HDClone 4 Free Edition at no cost. It can be downloaded at www.miray.de/public/download/hdclone.fe.en.zip.

HDClone 3.9 - Defragmentation "on the fly"

MUNICH - 06 May 2010 - The company Miray Software, located in Munich, Germany, releases version 3.9 of the cloning tool HDClone. The new version comes with a variety of new copying options. For instance, it is now possible to defragment a file system during creating the copy ("on the fly"), to create compressed file images and to downsize NTFS partitions.

In the new version 3.9, HDClone is now able, in addition to the well-known SmartCopy and SmartImage modes, to defragment the file system on demand. The defragmentation then will be performed within the copying process ("on the fly"). As a result, there is no significant additional time required for defragmentation from the user's view. In the recent versions, the size of file images was equal to the amount of data on the source medium and therefore had no options for saving space. This has changed in HDClone 3.9, which offers a "Compression" option, available from the Standard Edition upwards. Compression allows to create significantly smaller file images. The compression rate is comparable to the usual rates of compression software, with compression rates of 50 % achievable with standard installations.

Migrating entire Windows installations to smaller hard disks is now also supported. With previous versions, it has only been possible to migrate to system partitions of at least equal size. Now, HDClone ensures by actively downsizing of NTFS partitions successful copying to smaller partitions. This feature is included from the Basic Edition upwards. It allows users to easily migrate an existing installation to a faster, but usually smaller SSD drive, for example.

HDClone 3.9 also takes care for the advancing spread of hard disks with a 4K sector size and other sector sizes, deviating form the usual 512 byte. On demand, HDClone changes the alignment of partitions in the right way to avoid the feared speed drop, usually seen with conventional cloning software without 4K awareness. This feature is included in all editions of HDClone 3.9.

Another highlight in HDClone 3.9 is a command line version, which is included from the Professional upward. This version supports creating file images of drives and partitions. It can be started right from batch scripts or the Windows Task Scheduler, for example to create backups automatically at fixed times.

HDClone 3.9 is available as from May 10th, 2010 in different editions: Basic (19,90 €), Standard (39,90 €), Professional (99 €), and Enterprise (starting from 299 €). Additionally, we offer the Free Edition for private use. It is especially suitable for migrating existing installations to a new hard disk. HDClone 3.9 Free Edition will be available as a free download at www.miray.de/public/download/hdclone.3.9.fe.en.zip as from May 10th, 2010.

HDClone - upsizing partitions arbitrarily

MUNICH - 2 December 2009 - Version 3.8.3 of HDClone contains - besides many improved details - an important and useful new feature: HDClone 3.8.3 offers to freely adjust the target size of all partitions to be copied.

While it was only possible to assign the entire free space on the target medium only to one partition until now, from version 3.8.3 on, users can adjust the size of each partition individually by themselves. This works really easy by clicking and dragging with your mouse or, alternatively, with the arrow keys of the keyboard. The upsizing process itself is - as before - integrated into the copying process, which represents the fastest way. HDClone is able to upsize partitions with FAT, NTFS, Ext2, or Ext3 file systems.

HDClone 3.8 is available as from now in four different editions: Basic (19,90 €), Standard (39,90 €), Professional (99 €) and Enterprise (starting from 299 €). There is also the Free Edition, which is free of charge for private use. It is especially suited for migrating existing software installations to new hard disks. The Free Edition is availabe for download at www.miray.de/public/download/hdclone.3.8.fe.en.zip.

HDClone 3.8 - News from the clone sheep

MUNICH - 21 September 2009 - A new version of HDClone, an universal software for creating clones and file images of hard disks, has been published. It offers important improvements like e.g. removing the 2-terabyte-border, HotCopy & LiveImage, and easy restoring of backups on virtually any target medium. Users who have purchsed HDClone 3.7 in the recent 3 months will be updated to version 3.8 for free.

Compared to its predecessor, HDClone 3.8 offers a lot of new functions and features. Miray continues the principle of easy operating. As a result, most changes are to be found behind the graphical user interface. But there are also changes to the user interface: drive and partition selection has been arranged even more clearly. In the self-booting version, it now also displays the full volume names.

In addition, there are a lot of technical improvements. The new modes HotCopy and LiveImage create copies and file images while Windows is running. Especially when using HDClone for backups, this is a crucial advantage. More improvements are also to be found in the area of file systems: besides FAT and NTFS, HDClone now also supports ext2 and ext3 file systems. For ext2/ext3 HDClone now also offers the fast SmartCopy mode (copying occupied storage only) as well as automatical up-sizing the file system during copying. A feature relevant for the near future is the use of very large hard disks. HDClone 3.8 now supports hard disks and other storage media with more than 2 Terabytes (2 TB = 2000 GB) capacity. Besides IDE and SATA hard disks, HDClone also supports further interface standards like USB and Firewire with more than 2 TB.

HDClone 3.8 strongly improves restoring of backups. It now allows backups of single partitions or volumes to be restored to existing partitions, unallocated areas of a hard disk or entirely new hard disks - just as required. Furthermore, HDClone makes migration of existing Vista installations to new hard disks much easier and is prepared for use with Windows 7.

Secure deletion in overdrive

MUNICH - 13 March 2009 - Software solution for enterprises and service providers deletes up to 1 GB/sec.

For the end of March 2009 Miray Software announces the Enterprise Edition of the drive deletion software HDShredder. It thoroughly deletes all data on hard disks and other mass storage media (e.g. flash based storage). HDShredder conforms with German and international standards for secure drive deletion. The new Enterprise Edition deletes up to 16 drives at the same time. Deletion throughput increases almost linear with the number of drives. Therefore the time required for the deletion process will be drastically reduced.

HDShredder Enterprise Edition is a professional software tool for enterprises and service provider for mass deletion of storage media. As a pure software solution, HDShredder may basically be used on any PC. A typical application of the Enterprise Edition is the use in 'deletion servers', dedicated PCs, which are specially equipped for mass deletion (e.g. with hot-plug drive slots).

Its main advantages over concurring products are the universal applicability and the high deletion performance. Self-booting (HDShredder/S) as well as running on Windows (HDShredder/W), it may be used flexibly with all common types of mass storage* . Different drive types may be used at the same time and in arbitrary combinations. This composition of mass deletion and wide media support in a standard software product is currently unmatched.

HDShredder Enterprise Edition will be published in three variants (4x, 8x, and 16x) for deleting up to 4, 8, or 16 drives at a time. Prices will range from 299 EUR (4x) to 499 EUR (8x) to 799 EUR (16x). HDShredder can be purchased directly from the Miray Software homepage (www.miray.de) or from one of our resellers.

Easy drive cloning - HDClone now running on Windows

MUNICH - July 03, 2008 - Miray Software is going to publish version 3.6 of the hard disk copier HDClone. Just a self-booting program before, HDClone now also runs on Windows and features automatic upsizing of file systems during copying.

The HDClone 3.6 software package will now contain a Windows program for the first time. This will appeal to an increased number of users. It allows to use local Windows drives by their familiar drive letters. In addition, drives which require special Windows driver software (SCSI, RAID, SAS, FibreChannel) and Dynamic Volumes will also be accessible.

HDClone 3.6 is capable of increasing the size of NTFS and FAT file systems during copying. This feature facilitates migration of entire hard disks or single partitions. It saves time since both operations are accomplished in a single run. HDClone does not yet offer partition management. Upsizing - if deployed - always refers to the full amount of free space on the target medium.

HDClone is a universal cloning tool for hard disks and other mass storage devices. Major areas of use are mass installations and data rescue (or forensic securing) by professionals and backups or system migrations by private users. To address both groups of users equally, HDClone combines ease of use with professional features.

HDClone is available in different editions: Basic (private users), Standard (normal use), Professional (professional use), and Enterprise (mass copying). The Free Edition, allowing private users to migrate an existing installation to a new drive at no cost, is available for download at http://www.miray.de/download/sat.hdclone.html.

New version of HDClone Free Edition

MUNICH - March 14, 2008 - The popular hard disk cloning tool HDClone Free Edition supports USB in the new version 3.5. Hard disk migration or disk rescuing now also work with external media. This allows anyone to perform hard disk migration or disk rescuing to external media - essential for notebooks - with the known ease of use of HDClone's user interface.

Version 3.5 also has another new feature: HDClone adjusts the disk management data in MBR and boot sector of the copy fully automated to the drive geometry of the target medium, if desired. This makes it easier to use copies of single partitions or to to install copied hard disks into other systems, since there are usually no further adjustments necessary.

In the new HDClone version, Standard Edition and higher also offer the new SmartCopy mode. It serves for creating logical 1:1 copies. In this mode, copying error-free media is accelerated by a multiple. So it is possible, for example, to clone a common fresh Windows installation in less than 2 minutes. A slim Windows XP installation can be duplicated in only 20 seconds. For copying defective media, a physical 1:1 copy as HDClone offers further on, is generally inevitable.

The Free Edition of HDClone is a fully-fledged, discrete product. Users can use it for migrating an existing installation to a new hard disk or rescuing data quickly and easily. HDClone 3.5 Free Edition can be downloaded at http://www.miray.de/public/download/hdclone.fe.en.zip for free.

Highlights of the fair presence are the live demonstration of Symobi on current MultiCore systems and the support of Bluetooth.

Miray Software, together with the research team of Professor Uwe Baumgarten at the chair of system architecture and operating systems at the Technical University of Munich, for the first time officially presents version 1.4 of the operating system Symobi on the SYSTEMS 2007 exposition. Main feature of the new version is the improved system core, which now runs with one and the same kernel on SingleCore as well as on MultiCore systems with up to 32 processors.

In version 1.4 Symobi additionally offers extended hardware support, particularly a specially developed Bluetooth stack. It allows to connect wireless devices to Symobi, as well as establishing Bluetooth connections to other mobile systems. This will be demonstrated live on the gumstix platform, one of the smallest complete computer systems in the world with the size of - well - a gum stick.

Miray Software AG works in several development cooperations. The results can be seen on the SYSTEMS exposition: Symobi for the first time runs on the embedded PowerPC platform EFIKA of Genesi, one of the largest producers of standard PCs with PowerPC processors. In cooperation with the chair of efficient algorithms at the Technical University Munich the security architecture "Subjects" of Professor Christian Scheideler was implemented successfully on Symobi. Thereby, the security aspects included in the architecture of Symobi made the implementation possible.

Miray Software and the Technical Univertity Munich invite everyone who is interested to booth 312 in hall A2 to see Symobi on the different platforms and to try it on his own. Free-of-charge guest tickets can be obtained at http://www13.in.tum.de/tumsystems2007.html over the Technical University Munich and at http://www.miray.de/de/home/systems2007.html over the homepage of Miray Software.

Miray Software on SYSTEMS 2007

MUNICH - October 1, 2007 - The company Miray Software will participate in the SYSTEMS exposition in Munich (hall A2, stand 312) this year. Highlights are the recent advancements of the operating system Symobi. The stand-alone-tools HDClone and HDShredder will be presented in new versions.

The real-time operating system Symobi now also offers a VNC client with which Windows, Linux, and MAC systems can be operated remotely over a network with a graphical terminal. The operating system on the embedded platform IXP will be presented with a sample point-of-sale application, which can be operated with a touch panel. Additionally, Symobi can now be operated better with a central graphical menu and task manager.

The stand-alone-tools of Miray Software are represented in new extended versions. HDShredder 3.2 now supports firewire. In HDClone 3.5 the new SmartCopy mode can be selected. Unlike physical 1:1-copies, this function does not require to clone the whole medium in most cases. The logical 1:1-copy only considers the amount of data that is saved on a medium. The SmartCopy mode therefore accelerates cloning by a multiple.

Miray Software will present the new products on the SYSTEMS 2007 exposition in hall A2 at stand 312 (Bayern Innovativ). There will be several PCs available for live demos, so the products can be tested. In addition, the development team will be at your disposal for personal interviews that can be arranged with us. New Version 3.2 of HDShredder

MUNICH - September 24, 2007 - Miray Software announces the new version 3.2 of the hard disk eraser HDShredder for the end of October. Especially the broad hardware support was therefore expanded even further. HDShredder 3.2 will be introduced on the SYSTEMS 2007 exposition.

If files are only "erased" using the "format" command or the recycle bin, even after it was emptied, the contents still remain stored on the medium and can be recovered by third parties easily. That confidential or private Information can be attained by trespassers has been demonstrated in many illustrious examples in the past few years, e.g. with hard disks from government departments, companies, and private persons purchased in auctions at eBay. The economic risk originating from this situation is obvious for companies. But more and more private users attach importance to confidential data, like account data or private photos and videos, not being visible for trespassers.

HDShredder is a fast and easy-to-use solution for companies as well as private users to delete the contents of hard disks or single partitions safely. It offers all important international data deletion standards. HDShredder is applicable independent of an operation system on any PC, even without any operating system installed. It has a concise and simple user interface. The deletion process can be started with only a few mouse clicks. If desired, HDShredder also offers the output of a deletion report on a floppy disk.

Besides hard disks the new version also supports portable media, e.g. USB sticks, CF-cards, and many more. For example, storage media of digital foto and video cameras can be erased directly with HDShredder. It can erase all kinds of file systems with a very high deletion speed of up to 90 MB/sec (that is 5.4 GB/min).

On the occasion of the official publication of HDShredder 3.2 and the presentation of further products Miray Software invites everyone who is interested to the SYSTEMS 2007 exposition to stand 312, hall A2. Further information and free-of-charge guest tickets (regular price one-day ticket: 35 Euros) can be found here: http://www.miray.de/home/systems2007.html.

New Version 3.5 of HDClone

MUNICH - September 18, 2007 - Miray Software announces a new version of the HDClone series for the end of October. Highlight of version 3.5 is the SmartCopy function that in many cases accelerates the copying process by a multiple. HDClone 3.5 will be presented on the SYSTEMS 2007 exposition in Munich for the first time.

HDClone makes physical copies of hard disks and other media or single partitions. The contents of the source media or the selected partition is transferred 1:1 to the destination media. Until now, also the areas that did not contain any data were copied. This keeps making sense and is necessary for data recovery and proprietary file systems, and in part for operation system copies and backups. For file partitions as well as many operating systems, though, the copying of areas filled with data is sufficient.

The new version with the new SmartCopy funtion now offers the possibility to copy only the used areas of a hard disk or partition. The result functionally equals a 1:1-copy, but cloning is in most cases faster by a multiple. For example, in the case of a 160 GB hard disk that is filled with 20 GB of data the copying process with the SmartCopy function takes about 8 minutes instead of about 55 minutes for a physical 1:1-copy on an average system. The SmartCopy function is only suitable for the use with intact media. It particularly serves the copying of hard disks and the creation of data backups with a minimal expenditure of time.

Furthermore, Miray offers the HDClone 3.5 Free Edition, which is mainly designed for hard disk migration for private users at no charge: http://www.miray.de/download/sat.hdclone.html.

On the occasion of the publication of HDClone 3.5 and the presentation of further products Miray Software invites everyone who is interested to the SYSTEMS 2007 exposition to stand 312, hall A2. HDClone Enterprise Edition

MUNICH - June 05, 2007 - Miray Software presents a new product of the HDClone series: The Enterprise Edition is specialised on mass cloning of storage media and is officially available from July 2nd. She offers a high copy capacity of up to 1 GB/sec, which means an extraordinary time gain in all application areas.

The programs of the HDClone series can be used universally to create physical 1:1-copies of hard disks and other mass storage devices. You can also copy single free selectable partitions. This especially serves the creation of backups and of mass installations, but also the rescuing of data through a special 'SafeRescue' mode or the migration of complete operating system installations.

The new Enterprise Edition uses the already known user friendly interface of the HDClone series. It contains all features of the Professional Edition and additionally specializes on mass installations. The Enterprise Edition now makes it possible to copy from one source to multiple targets at the same time. This creates a major time advantage since speed rises proportionally with the number of targets. Thereby, a copy throughput of about 200 MB/sec up to 1 GB/sec is possible, which equals up to 60 GB/min.

Especially suited for the setup of identical systems, the Enterprise Edition is in line with the needs of producers of turn-key computer systems. In addition, the tool is also usable on other fields due to its independence of file systems and formats. There are different licences for 4-target, 8-target or 16-target copies available. For each multiple copying process the supported drive types (USB, Firewire, SCSI, IDE, SATA) can be combined arbitrarily.

The Enterprise Edition is obtainable on the homepage of Miray Software (www.miray.de) from July 2nd. The exact prices and licence conditions will be anounced with the appearance of the Enterprise Edition.

HDClone 3.2 – Copying Hard Disks with AHCI and Firewire

MUNICH - February 14, 2007 - HDClone from Miray Software is a fast and easy-to-use solution for real 1:1 copies of hard disks and other media. The latest version - HDClone 3.2 - is available as from now and offers support for the fast standards AHCI (SATA II / eSATA) and Firewire (IEEE1394).

HDClone, a universal copying program for internal and external media, has now been released in version 3.2. As already known, it creates 1:1 copies (clones) of hard disks and other media (USB key, card reader etc.). By creating a 1:1 copy, HDClone can be used with any partition layout and any file system – copying entire operating system installations is also covered.

New in HDClone 3.2 is support for Firewire (IEEE1394) and AHCI (SATA II / eSATA). Firewire exceeds the real data rates achievable with USB by far, even doubling the speed in some cases. SATA II is the fastest PC interface available with a throughput of up to 18 GB/min. Current SATA II hard disks gain copy rates of up to 5 GB/min and more with HDClone – also on external drives via eSATA. The AreaCopy, another new feature, is intended for professional users and allows to copy arbitrary regions of any medium. HDClone 3.2 also offers full support of USB hubs.

„In the past year we could increase the user base of HDClone to more than 1 Mio users. We want to satisfy the confidence of our users by improving HDClone steadily further.“ Konrad Foikis, head of development at Miray, explains. „Since the copying speed is crucial, especially in case of 1:1 copies, we have decided to integrate support for Firewire, SATA II and external SATA (eSATA) into HDClone. This offers two benefits to our users: the choice between many different interface types and the ability to use the fastest data transfer standards available at present.“

HDClone is further on available in four editions: Free, Basic, Standard, and Professional. Already in the Free Edition, available at no cost, users benefit from the new features in HDClone 3.2. Support of SATA hard disks connected via an AHCI controller as well as USB hub support are included in the Free Edition. It is available as free download at http://www.miray.de/download/sat.hdclone.html.

The Operating System µnOS on XScale PDAs

MUNICH - February 10, 2005 - Miray Software announces that the real-time operating system µnOS is available for XScale processors as from now. The porting has been accomplished in collaboration with Technische Universität München (TU). This is an important step for Miray Software on the way to establish µnOS in the field of mobile and power saving embedded systems.

The operating system µnOS has already been available for almost all processors of the IA32/x86 processor family for a long time. By its low size, resource saving layout and real-time ability it is also suitable for embedded systems like cashier and automat systems. Whereas, until now, use in mobile or power saving embedded systems has been unapproachable until now for µnOS due to lack of support for the respective processors.

The porting now introduced, enabling the operating system µnOS to run on XScale-Processors, which are deployed in many PDAs for instance, marks Miray's entry into the market of mobile embedded systems. So far, µnOS supports the XScale processors PXA-25x, -26x and -27x. The medium-term scheduling of Miray provides for portings to PowerPC and MIPS processors. Miray already projects a first version for PowerPC for the second quarter of 2005.

From the beginning, the system architecture of µnOS has been designed consequently for deployment on different processors. Thus it is possible to support new processors in best time. Another special feature of µnOS is that the same API is available to applications on different platforms. In contrast to other multi-platform operating systems, a µnOS program can be executed on any supported platform without changes to source code.

The porting of µnOS has been accomplished in collaboration with the chair of operating systems at TU München under the direction of Prof. Dr. Uwe Baumgarten, an expert in the field of mobile and embedded operating systems. An iPAQ-3950 PDA by the company HP has been used as demonstration platform. Miray will provide a demonstration version of the ported µnOS for iPAQ for free download on the internet within the next few weeks.

NetSniffer - a general purpose packet sniffer

MUNICH - September 9, 2004 - NetSniffer extends the tool palette of the SAT-series from miray Software. It is an operating system independent Ethernet packet sniffer, which can be deployed on all current PCs without the need of an installation. Miray offers NetSniffer 1.0 to be downloaded for free.

Packet sniffers are a frequently used tool when setting up or maintaining networks. They are able to display data, which is exchanged between devices within a network in clear text and help to analyze this data. This allows to perform function tests or to inspect the data a device transmits thoroughly. Hence miray offers NetSniffer, a free packet sniffer that can be deployed universally and quickly. As all other programs of the Stand-Alone-Tools (SATs), NetSniffer is operating system independent and can thus be used easily without needing an installation first. NetSniffer can be booted from floppy disk or CD.

For private users, NetSniffer is an interesting tool when setting up a home network, for instance to test if a certain PC really receives and transmits data. Additional, NetSniffer allows any private user to inspect by himself, which data the attached PCs actually transmit. PCs, which send data over the LAN unwantedly, can so be easily retrieved. NetSniffer is able to intercept network packets already on the lowest level, the Ethernet layer. In addition to the packet data in clear text, the addresses of sender and recipient as well as the protocol type used in this packet are displayed among others. Therefore NetSniffer is also suitable for professional use, especially for development of network hard- and software as well as for setting up and maintaining LANs.

NetSniffer supports many current network adapters with Intel, 3Com, Realtek and NE2000 chipsets. They are detected and involved automatically. Further information is available under http://www.miray.de/de/products/sat.netsniffer.html on the miray homepage. NetSniffer 1.0 is available as free download under http://www.miray.de/de/download/sat.netsniffer.html.

HDClone & HDShredder now support SCSI

MUNICH - March 2, 2004 - The OS-independent harddisk tools HDClone and HDShredder from the SAT-Series of miray Software are now also available for SCSI harddisks. At the same time miray publishes also a new version of the free HDClone Free Edition as well as the free testing tool DiskCheck.

After version 2.0 of HDClone and HDShredder had already been released at the Systems exhibition in 2003, supporting DMA and the even faster UltraDMA modes, the product range has now been extended by another edition, the Professional SCSI Edition. HDClone and HDShredder thereby support the popular Ultra, Wide, UltraWide and U160 adapters from Adaptec and connected harddisks up to 2048 GB. Thus it is now possible to create copies between SCSI and IDE harddisks with the new Professional SCSI Edition of HDClone.

Along with the release of the Professional SCSI Edition, support of UltraDMA in the existing Professional Edition has also been improved. For testing if and how good a certain system is supported, the new tool DiskCheck is available for free. This tool lists all IDE and SCSI harddisks found in a system. It is based upon the same IDE and SCSI drivers as the other tools and additionally offers perfromance testing for each harddisk detected. DiskCheck can be downloaded for free at http://www.miray.de/download/sat.diskcheck.html.

For facilitating migration of a system to a bigger harddisk for users, miray Software will further on offer the HDClone Free Edition, which is free of charge. It allows copying a smaller harddisk onto a bigger one. HDClone Free Edition is now ready for download in its newest version 2.0 at http://www.miray.de/download/sat.hdclone.html.

PCISniffer 1.2 - New Version of the Free Tool

MUNICH - September 3, 2003 - The well known and freely available diagnosis tool PCISniffer by miray Software is now available in the new version 1.2. The most important improvement is the device database that is now up to date again. The PCI device detection has also been improved in PCISniffer 1.2.

PCISniffer 1.2 from the SAT-Series (Stand-Alone-Tool) by miray Software scans for available devices on the PCI bus of a PC and displays their identification and configuration data in plain text. With more than 22.000 downloads from www.miray.de as well as many secondary download pages and publications on CD-ROM, PCISniffer meanwhile has become a popular tool for administrators, developers and computer professionals.

PCISniffer has an improved device detection algorithm in version 1.2. The previous version did not display particular PCI devices under certain circumstances. PCISniffer 1.2 now finds all connected PCI devices and displays their data in plain text. As an additional improvement the PCI device database of PCISniffer has to be mentioned. It has been updated in version 1.2 and recognizes more than 4.000 PCI devices and more than 1.500 PCI vendors now. This allows to display identification and vendor data of PCI devices that have entered the market since the release of the predecessor.

Miray Software continues offering PCISniffer for free. The latest version - PCISniffer 1.2 - is immediately ready for download under www.miray.de/products/sat.pcisniffer.html.

Embedded and PC Operating System µnOS 0.98

MUNICH - July 17, 2003 - miray Software releases on 07/18/2003 the latest version of its embedded and PC operating system µnOS. Besides a number of runtime enhancements of the system core the new version 0.98 contains a vastly improved window server, an all-new intelligent console interface and new system utilities. A dedicated internet platform for developers and interested users will be launched by miray in the near future.

In version 0.98 of µnOS the process manager, being the central controlling system of µnOS, benefits from a number of improvements in speed and stability. The core of µnOS, the Sphere Kernel on the other part, is unchanged compared to the previous version, due to its maturity and the absence of errors since the former release.

The window server in µnOS 0.98 has been expanded and improved continuously. Resizing as well as minimizing and maximizing of windows by the user are now fully supported. Additionally different layers of overlapping windows have been introduced, this enables the realization of different window levels and windows which are always on top.

Completely new is the console interface. It is similar to the VGA text mode with columns and rows as well as foreground and background color for every character. The number of columns and rows as well as font face and size are freely adjustable, and there are 16 M (in contrast to 16) colors possible each for foreground and background. In addition, each program can have several console windows. This enables the programmer to use different windows for input, status and help output of a console application.
Important and substantial for the console interface is the support of sequential driven programs (in contrast to event driven programs with the GUI). Simple tasks are often implemented much faster and easier in a sequential driven program. And there is also no initial programming overhead as known from GUI programs. Console windows can be programmed via matrix functions or via positioning and printing functions.
The output logic (similar to DOS) is also ideal for porting old text mode programs to µnOS. Program structure and logic can be used without changes, which minimizes efforts. Additionally, the new input and output functions are very similar to the old ones regarding names and parameters. Examples for this are the programs Hangman, Snake and PCISniffer on the demo disk. The console API also offers interfaces for simple integration of keyboard and mouse. Because of the high level of optimizing, the console interface is very fast, although it is "just" a virtual text mode.

As usual, a free demo version is available at www.miray.de/download/demodisk.html for download.

Hard-Disk-Cloning-Tool HDClone

MUNICH - April 25, 2003 - miray software officially releases the program HDClone. HDClone makes low-level-copies of hard disk drives. It offers besides simple 1:1-copies also some special features, which make it usable for end-users as well as for professionals. HDClone extends the SAT-series of miray, which includes already the programs PCISniffer, DiskSpy and HDShredder.

HDClone copies hard disks on physical level, and it does not get disturbed by defective sectors or different hard disk capacities. Like all tools of the SAT-series the HDClone is operating system independent and does not need any installation. It starts directly from floppy or CD and runs on all PCs from 386SX to Pentium 4 with IDE hard disks.

In the professional area the HDClone is useful for creating exact 1:1 copies (incl. system partitions!) to achieve a simple (re-)installation of identical configured PCs. In the Backup&Restore mode it is possible to save existing installations locally and copy this saved image back individually and locally, without opening the PC or the need for a second hard disk. Especially teaching- and test-computers can therefore be easily brought back to their initial status. The Backup&Restore mode is also useful for public accessible terminals, since private data which is created during sessions will be overwritten on physical level and offers therefore a high level of data security. The possibility to copy hard disks of different sizes saves a lot time to users and administrators. The contents of a (old) hard disk (incl. system partition) can easily be moved to a bigger (newer) hard disk.

All features mentioned above are also interesting for private users. Especially the Backup&Restore mode can save a lot of time and anger. Simply create a local backup and restore it in case of need. Test installations or a corrupted operating system then do not require a complete re-installation any more.

HDClone will be offered by miray in three different versions: A Business Edition for companies and operators (99,00 EUR), a Personal Edition for private users (15,00 EUR) and a Free Edition which can be downloaded for free and only copies disks of different size. The Free Edition is intended to allow private users moving their hard disk contents fast, easy and cost-free to a newer (and bigger) hard disk.

At www.miray.de/products/sat.hdclone.html you can find more information about HDClone as well as the download link to the Free Edition.

Announcement of New Hard Disk Cloning Tool

MUNICH - March 31, 2003 - miray software is going to release version 1.0 of HDClone within the next weeks. This program will join the already released programs PCISniffer, DiskSpy and HDShredder of the SAT-series by miray. HDClone is used for copying hard disks. Besides this it also offers the useful Backup&Restore mode. This press release contains a short description of HDClone and offers you the possibility to test the program in advance (see below). Prior to the official release another press release will follow.

HDClone copies the hard disk data on the physical level. HDClone has no problems with defective sectors and differing drive sizes. So an (old) hard disk (incl. system partition!) can easily be moved to a larger (new) hard disk. For resizing the partitions after the copying process there is already a number of tools available. HDClone will also offer this feature in later versions.

HDClone should be interesting and useful for professional usage, for duplicating hard disks in larger quantities or with its Backup&Restore mode. This mode offers the possibility to copy the first half of a hard disk onto the second half and vice versa. If the hard disk is partitioned the use only the first half of the disk, this feature can be used to store a backup of a working system on the second half and to restore it when needed. Possible applications are teaching and test computers. This application is also useful for rented computers or public terminals, since with restoring the original data besides the initial conditions becoming active again, the temporary data of a former user are overwritten on a physical basis (data safety issues). This feature is also usable for short-time backups. Long-term-backups should not be done with this feature, since on a failure of the complete hard disk both the original data as well as the copy are unreachable.

As all tools of the SAT-series the HDClone is operating system independent and does not need any installation. It boots directly from floppy or CD, runs on all PCs from 386SX to Pentium 4 and can be used for IDE hard disks.

Miray offers you to provide your editors with an evaluation version of HDClone. Don't hesitate to request it via our press department at pr@miray.de.

Release of New Software Tool Series

MUNICH - February 11, 2003 - miray software today releases the already announced operating-system-independent software tool series labelled Stand-Alone-Tools (SAT). The series starts with three tools, which are HDShredder, DiskSpy and PCISniffer. Especially the HDShredder is interersting for a wide range of users. miray will release more tools of this series in future.

Common to all programs of the SAT series is their operating system independence and that they don't need any installation. The programs are booted directly from floppy disk and are immediately usable on any PC starting from 386. This makes it possible for the SAT tools to perform tasks that are hard to perform under a conventional operating system in this form. They can be started quickly and without prior installation.

HDShredder is aimed to a wide range of users. A publication from the MIT published in January 2003 (http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/tt/2003/jan29/diskdrives.html) explains that in business as well as in home use hard disks are often sold or thrown away without deleting the data stored on them, these being often private or even sensitive data, e.g. credit card numbers. With HDShredder miray offers a simple and fast possibility for both companies and private users to delete hard disks entirely and completely. It meets (and surpasses) the requests of international data safety standards. HDShredder is operating-system-independent, runs on every PC and has a simple and well-structured user interface. HDShredder is available in either a Personal and a Business Edition. The latter has some additional features which are of special interest for companies, such as creating a deletion protocol.

DiskSpy is used to view single hard disk sectors and offers access to every sector of a hard disk drive. It has special features like text and pattern search, 8-, 16- and 32-bit display modes as well as big- and little-endian notation. The Professional Edition additionally has editing functions and an extended pattern search. The Standard Edition is available as free download at www.miray.de/download/sat.diskspy.html.

PCISniffer is used for PCI diagnosis. It shows device and vendor names in plain text and can transfer them by null modem. Application targets are the detection of resource conflicts and detection or inventarization of PCI devices. The free download is available at www.miray.de/download/sat.pcisniffer.html.

More information can be found on the miray software homepage at www.miray.de/products/sat.html.

Announcement of New Software-Tool-Series

MUNICH - January 21, 2003 - miray Software is going to release a set of operating-system-independent tools labelled Stand-Alone-Tools (SAT) this February. These are HDShredder, a program to physically delete hard disks, DiskSpy, a hard disk editor, and PCISniffer, a PCI diagnostic program. This press release contains a short description of these programs and offers you the possibility to test them in advance. At the official release date a further press release will follow.

Common to all tools of the SAT-Series is their operating system independency which requires no installation. The programs boot directly from floppy disk or CD and run on all PCs from 386SX to Pentium4, allowing them to be used immediately, independent of any installed operating system.

HDShredder is used to delete hard disk data completely. Standard deleting commands and DOS/Windows 'format'-command deletes data only logically, i.e. only the references are removed. The data itself remains and can be restored. HDShredder is able to delete this data on physical level by completely overwriting the hard disk - even several times, depending on safety requirements.
This ability is relevant for a wide spectrum of users. Companies can meet official data safety guidelines as well as protect their data in their own interest. Private users can prevent that post-owners of their hard disks or PCs browse their personal files.

DiskSpy is a sector-level hard disk editor. It provides access to all sectors of a hard disk, including areas usually protected by the operating system. Other features of DiskSpy are the comfortable ASCII- and hexadecimal search function, 16 and 32 bit views, big- and little-endian views and soft scrolling over sector boundaries and horizontal offset shifting.

PCISniffer performs a complete PCI-diagnosis. It reports device and vendor names as well as other PCI device information in plain text. This information can also be transmitted over a serial port. By being operating system independent PCISniffer makes available the unaltered PCI-configuration.

Miray offers you to provide your editors with evaluation versions of these programs. Don't hesitate to request them via our press department at pr@miray.de.

MUNICH - November 21, 2002 - miray Software introduces the new version 0.95 of the operating system µnOS with numerous new features today: µnOS is now based on a completely new realtime microkernel, has a graphic server with a swift software graphic engine and full true color support and a window server with a complete GUI component framework and support for arbitrary freeform windows.

µnOS 0.95 has taken miray Software a huge step towards the version 1.0. Especially realtime abilities and stability have been greatly enhanced by the integration of the Sphere 2.0 microkernel, also developed by miray and available since May 2002: The Sphere 2.0 microkernel, which is only 20 KB in size, is assumed to be flawless and provides high per-formant, hard realtime for all kernel calls, without any exception. These characteristics make µnOS a very stable system with minimal overhead.
The process manager of µnOS has been also renewed. It provides much higher bandwidth for IPC (Inter-Process-Communication) mechanisms leading to a much higher throughput in process communication, resulting in better per-formance of system services.

The new graphic server takes also great advantage of the higher IPC performance. It has been extended by a swift, software-based graphic engine, providing full true color abilities. This graphic engine combines the fast IPC mechanisms with intelligent object management. This results in a high graphic throughput for a pure software engine (e.g. 80 MPixels on Pentium III 500 MHz, i.e. more than 100 full screen frames per second in 1024x768). Furthermore the graphic engine auto-converts between different color models, transparent for applications.

Another new feature in µnOS 0.95 is the enhanced window server: Besides a renewed window design it now offers arbitrarily shaped windows. These freeform windows are not limited in any way: Neither they have to be closed nor to be connected. This ability opens new possibilities for the design of applications. The abilities of the window server are completed by a framework of standard GUI components as radio buttons or popup menus for example.

A demo of µnOS 0.95 is ready for download under http://download/demodisk.html. Because one extraordinary feature of µnOS 0.95 is its low resource consumption, there is a special version ready for download under the same address, which demonstrates that µnOS 0.95 can be run with only 3 MB of RAM.

New realtime microkernel Sphere SP 2.0

MUNICH - May 14, 2002 - Today miray Software introduced a new realtime microkernel, named Sphere SP 2.0. Compared to its predecessor, it has been completely redesigned and delivers high realtime performance for 32-bit processors. At a size of only 21 KB, Sphere SP 2.0 is especially suitable for embedded systems. But due to its extreme scalability it's also well prepared for large systems.

The Sphere microkernel is already in use in the client/server OS µnOS, also developed by miray Software. Now miray Software offers the new version 2.0 of this microkernel as a stand-alone-product for licensing.
Sphere SP 2.0 allows fast and easy creation of multi-threaded realtime applications. Its field of application covers small and simple applications as well as huge and complex systems. Through the extraordinary low use of resources of Sphere SP 2.0 applications can already be realized with a minimum of 116 KB of RAM - incl. microkernel (!) - and a 386 processor.

The Sphere SP 2.0 microkernel combines the five principles realtime, scalability, stability, small size and simplicity in a completely new way: It provides a small, very compact kernel API with only 22 function calls, that can be quick and easily employed. The kernel itself is with only 21 KB a real microkernel. Sphere SP 2.0 executes system calls not only fast but also in realtime, i.e. within a firmly defined time interval. Nevertheless the system is fully scalable. Limitations are only defined by the used processor architecture.
An absolute innovation in Sphere SP 2.0 is the IRQ handling mechanism, which is performed outside the privileged kernel mode. This has crucial advantages: On the one hand drivers can't endanger the system's stability and reliability. On the other hand writing drivers becomes much easier.

For optimal employment on different platforms miray Software additionally provides a broad spectrum of options. Subsequently Sphere SP 2.0 can be adapted to the specific requirements in the best possible way. Besides others this in-cludes FPU support, different memory managers and processor-dependent kernel optimizations. The ease-of-use of Sphere SP 2.0 is also upgraded by the amount and quality of the available drivers and libraries. Furthermore miray Software offers the creation of customer specific drivers and libraries.

At the moment Sphere SP 2.0 already supports various processors of different manufacturers, including Intel, AMD and VIA. The amount of supported processors will be increased by miray in the future.

Version 0.93 of µnOS released

MUNICH - April 9, 2002 - On 04/09/2002 miray Software officially introduced the version 0.93 of the operating system µnOS. The company also announced a new version of the underlying realtime microkernel, which will be available as a stand-alone product in the future.

The slim and widely scalable client/server operating system µnOS is based on a very small realtime microkernel. The version 0.93 has been improved in many aspects. Besides others, it provides a smaller microkernel of only 70 KB, extended hardware support, support of up to 4 GB of RAM, a high level of stability and dynamic device drivers. Furthermore, new applications have been added to µnOS 0.93 like a file browser, a memory guard, a shutdown manager and a display manager.

As usual with previous versions of µnOS, there is again a free demo version of µnOS 0.93 available for download under http://www.miray.de/download/demodisk.html. This demo version contains a graphical user interface and numerous demo applications. As it fits just on a 1.44 MB floppy, it's not necessary to make any changes to the harddisk.

The µnOS 0.93 demo is not only available as disk image for creating a bootdisk but also as ISO image for creating a bootable CD-ROM. Further, there is the possibility of purchasing a bootable CD-ROM from miray with the µnOS 0.93 demo version on it under http://www.miray.de/order/system_cv.html.

The version 0.93 of µnOS is based on the original microkernel. Based on this microkernel, miray developed a fundamentally improved successor during the recent months. This new realtime microkernel, named "Sphere 2.0", will be officially presented by miray within the next weeks. The new Sphere 2.0 microkernel is significantly smaller, faster and more powerful. Independent from µnOS it will also be available as a stand-alone realtime microkernel. In the middle of 2002, Sphere 2.0 will also support more processors. Currently Sphere 2.0 runs on all Intel-IA32- and AMD-Élan-processors.

New Operating System µnOS

A demo version of the new operating system µnOS by the company miray is now available.
It's now ready for a free download under the web address http://www.miray.de/download/demodisk.html.

The structural concept of this system is completely independent from other systems. It has been written from scratch. But although, no open-source-code or otherwise already existing code has been re-used.

With µnOS, we follow a completely new concept. A concept that is able to fulfill the requests a modern OS has to deal with. A lot of advantages just come from efficiently implemented system calls and a very small overhead.
Especially the client/server-based and message-oriented basic concept is able to cope with current and future requests. The mechanisms that are used to realize that concept are implemented in µnOS as a comfortable interface.

Further, this basic concept allows a completely transparent distribution of system processes within a network of any kind. This ability of network-wide distribution will be implemented in future versions.

µnOS gives a lot of advantages to developers. This allows to realize huge projects in a very effective way. For the customer, these advantages show their affect in greater availability and better stability of the applications.
